Curriculum Overview

Our curriculum was designed after several of the top American Veterinary programs. With our rigorous but fair course load all our Veterinary students should be able to pass any licensing board they plan on taking. With our brilliant and well prepared instructors students will be taught Veterinary Medicine at an exceptional level. We hope that through our program all students will fill prepared to face the real world challenges of working as a Veterinarian. Listed below are the entire course curriculum’s for all four years of veterinary school. FIRST QUARTER:

Professional orientation:  One (1) credit hour.

Gross Anatomy:  Four (4) credit hours.  One (1) hour lecture., Nine (9) hours lab.

Microscopic Anatomy:  Four (4) credit hours. Three (3) hours lecture., Three (3) hours lab.

Physiology: Five (5) credit hours.  Four (4) hours lecture., Three (3) hours lab.

Introduction to Animal Care: Three (3) credit hour.  One (1) hour lecture., Six (6) hours lab.

Veterinary Integrated Problem Solving: One (1) credit hour., Zero (0) hours lecture., Two (2) hours lab.

TOTAL HOURS:  Eighteen (18) credit hours. Ten (10) hours lecture., Twenty-Three (23) hours lab.

SECOND QUARTER:

Gross Anatomy: Four (4) credit hours.  One (1)  hour lecture., Nine (9) hours lab.

Neuroscience: Four (4) credit hours.  Three (3) hours lecture., Three (3) hours lab.

GENERAL FOCUS PATHWAY: Required courses of at least Seven (7)  credit hours of electives; Four (4) weeks of Preceptorship and a minimum of  Two (2) FLEX credits (Thirteen (13) credit hours are required between electives and preceptorship.

Diagnostic Clinical Pathology:  Two (2) credit hours., One (1) week in duration.

Diagnostic Services:  Two (2) credit hours., Two (2) weeks in duration.

Clinical Cardiology:  Two (2) credit hours., Two (2) weeks in duration.

Theriogenology:  One (1) credit hour., One (1) week in duration.

Large Animal Clinical Medicine: Six (6) credit hours., Four (4) weeks in duration.

Large Animal Clinical Surgery:  Six (6) credit hours., Four (4) weeks in duration.

Rural Veterinary Practice:  Three (3) credit hours., Two (2) weeks in duration.

Veterinary Anesthesiology:  Four (4) credit hours., Three (3) weeks in duration.

Clinical Oncology:  Two (2) credit hours., Two (2) weeks in duration.

Large Animal Emergency Care:  One (1) credit hour., One (1) week in duration.

Clinical Small Animal Medicine:  Six (6) credit hours., Four (4) weeks in duration.

Clinical Small Animal Surgery: (To Include Two (2) weeks orthopeadics/Two (2) weeks soft tissue) Six (6) credit hour., Four(4) weeks in duration.

Occupational Health and Safety in Small Animal  Primary Care:  Four (4) credit hours., Three (3) weeks in duration.

Clinical Imaging:  Three (3) credit hours., Two (2) weeks in duration.

Small Animal Critical Care:  One (1) credit hour., One (1) week in duration.

Electives:  Minimum of Seven (7) credit hours., Duration may vary.

Preceptorship:  Minimum of Four (4) credit hours., Minimum of Four (4) weeks in duration.

FOURTH YEAR SMALL ANIMAL PATHWAY:

Small Animal Focus Pathway requires courses of at least eleven (11) credit hours of electives PLUS a minimum of  four (4) weeks preceptorship required.

FOURTH YEAR LARGE ANIMAL PATHWAY:

Large animal pathway requires at least seven (7) credit hours of electives plus a minimum of four (4) weeks of preceptorship with a minimum of  two (2) flex credits  (Thirteen credit are required between electives and preceptorship.)

FOURTH YEAR NON-TRADITIONAL PATHWAY:

Students must have approval by the Associate Dean and work in consultation with the Associate Dean., in order to choose the appropriate electives and preceptorships in order to develop a curriculum.

Examples of Non-Traditional Path include:  Avian Medicine, Epidemiology, Laboratory animal medicine, Pathology, Poultry, Public health, Research, Wildlife and Zoo Medicine.

Required courses include at least 17 credits in elective courses with at least four weeks minimum with a preceptorship.

FOURTH-YEAR NONTRADITIONAL PATHWAY con’t:
